As you're fully aware, our team at parabox loves Vine. And Vine wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for some awesome Viners that continue to push the envelope...six seconds at a time.
We sat down with some of our favorite Viners to find out what makes them tick, why they like Vine, and what their go-to order is at Long John Silver's.
For our first ever Viner Interview, we talked with Brandon Calvillo to see how he got started on the popular social media platform, and where he gets his inspiration to keep going. Check out what Brandon had to say below:
parabox: What initially drew you to Vine?
Brandon: "What drew me to Vine were my limitations at the time. After I graduated high school I was very motivated to start making short films. However, finances and ambition are two different things, and I didn't have enough of the former to carry on with the later. I did however have an iPhone. I found Vine and realized that I could still make short films, just extremely condensed short films."
If you could make a vine with any person in the world, living or dead, who wouldn’t it be?
"Probably Jeff Goldblum...cause of the restraining order and whatnot."
Did you ever imagine that you would have over 3 million followers?
"I still can't even fathom it. The fact that even one person in the world thinks that I'm funny astonishes me."
Would you consider yourself a big deal on Vine?
"On Vine, maybe. In the real world, I'd say I'm about as big of a deal as a coyote farting in the desert."
What advice would you give to someone that was trying to get a bigger following on Vine?
"Don't do anything but be yourself. Do what YOU think is funny and what makes YOU laugh. Forget what anyone else thinks, cause that's not the least bit important."
Who is your arch-nemesis in the Vine community?
"The comments section."
Who has been your favorite person to work with on Vine so far and why?
"A Viner/Comedian named Jason Nash. He is by far the best and easiest to work with because we've known each other for so long, we have really good chemistry. The Vines I've made that I personally think our my funniest have been with him. Him and I have bigger plans outside of Vine, but I ain't sposed to tell nobody......"
Where do your ideas for Vines come from?
"I go to this well in Lake Tahoe where a magical troll tells me what is and isn't funny. Just kidding, I think they come from my kidneys."
Would you rather be really good at singing and really bad at dancing, or really good at dancing and really bad at singing?
"I just want to be able to sing the entirety of "Come Sail Away" by Styx without missing a single word."
Us too Brandon. Us too.
Other than this interview, what is your greatest achievement in life?
"My mother to finally admit that she loves me and is proud of me, which has yet to be achieved. So...this interview."
Did people think you were funny before you started vining?
"My imaginary pet wombat Scooter thought I was funny, everyone else just thought I needed therapy for some reason."
Tell us about your craziest vining experience.
"I don't have too many. It's mainly just me recording myself on selfie mode. There was this one time where we were filming with a fake gun and the SWAT team was called and we almost got killed, but other than that it's been pretty smooth sailing."
If you were a salad, what kind of dressing would you have?
"I have a pool consisting entirely of Balsamic Vinaigrette. I'm sorry, what was the question again?"
What is your go-to order at Long John Silver’s?
"I'm more of a Bennigan's kind of guy, but probably anything off the kids menu so I could get some cool crayons for my collection."
Thanks for your time Brandon, I hope it was better than getting sucker punched by a bear.
Hot dang you guys. We planned on asking the "arch nemesis" question to quite a few Viners, but I think we'll have to retire it after the fantastically perfect response from Brandon.
